Convex lens : The lens with a curved shape is named a convex lens; in fact, a convex lens has a bulky center and thin edges. A convex lens inverts the image and it's used to bring a small image closer. That's why convex lenses are often used as magnifying glasses--because of their property to make things look bigger

Concave lens : Lens that possesses at least one surface that curves inwards. It is a diverging lens, spreading out those light rays that have been refracted through it. A concave lens is thinner at its centre than at its edges, and is used to correct short-sightedness (myopia).

Difference between concave and convex lens -

1. Concave lens is diverging lens whereas convex lens is converging lens .

2. Concave lens forms virtual and erect image whereas convex lens forms real and inverted image .

3. In concave lens reflecting rays do not meet each other whereas the reflecting rays of convex lens meet at one point .

4. Focal length of concave lens is negative whereas focal length of convex lens is positive .

5. Concave lens correct Myopia whereas convex lens correct hypermetropia.

6. In concave lens object appear smaller and farther whereas in convex lens object appear larger and closer .

7. Concave lens is curved inward whereas convex lens is curved outward .

8. Concave lens is thinner at centre compared to edges wherein convex lens is thicker at centre compared to edges .
