1) they are also called south west monsoon.
2)they are onshore winds.
3)they blow from June to September.

Advancing of monsoon means the favourable Temperature and pressure conditions helping trade winds to gather moisture over oceans. These winds then travel over India to cause rains called Southwest Monsoon.
Onset of monsoon means beginning of monsoon season with rains .It begins with pre-monsoon showers in Andman Nicobar Islands and gradually it touches the Southern tip of Indian peninsula. It lasts between June to Mid September.
Retreat of Monsoon means is called withdrawal of monsoon from the Northern plains .It is a transition period during the months of Oct and Nov.The skys get clear and nights are cool.
