3d} 3d things are cube ,cylinder,sphere etc
2d}2 d things are square,rectangle,circle

2D stands for 2 Dimension and 3D stands for 3 dimensions.
You have 2 axis (x axis and y axis) in 2 dimension but there are 3 axis in 3 Dimension (x axis, y axis and z axis).
2D things could be insterted into 3 D things but you cannot put a 3D thing into a 2D thing.
