The difference between both 2N and N2 above is just a slight difference. 2N is known to be the two molecules of Nitrogen atom, and whereas N2 means two atoms of nitrogen is present in one molecule.

2N means the two Nitrogen atoms in uncombined state (atomic state - unstable), these two Nitrogen atoms undergoes chemical reaction and combines to form N₂ molecule (molecular state - got stability).
