Compound Sentence:
A compound sentence is a sentence made up of two or more principal/main clauses.
Eg: I came home. (1st main clause)
I fell asleep. (2nd main clause)
Join them together with a conjunction and you’ll have a compound sentence.
I came home and I fell asleep.
Complex Sentence:
A complex sentence is made up of a main/ principal clause and a subordinating clause (a subordinating clause cannot convey complete sense without the help of the main clause.
Eg: You will fail. ( Main/principal clause)
If you don’t study (subordinating clause)
Join them together and you will get :
If you don’t study, you will fail.
OR
You will fail if you don’t study.
