General election:elections that are held after every 5 years when the parliament completes full term

Midterm election:if the central or a state governament loses its majority before completion of its term and the formation of alternate governament is not possible

mid term elections are held

By elections:if an elected member resigns or dues before completing his/her term,his/her becomes vacant. election held to fill that vacant seat is known as by elections
