What is the difference between a preservative and an antioxidant ?
Pls give some examples of both substances.

preservatives are used to preserve bacterial attack and antioxidants are used to preserve from oxidation e.g risting rancidity

harsh8055: preservatives--formeldehyde which is used to preserve human body and antioxidants--nitrogen filled in chips etc and kerosene used to prevent oxidation in Na and K etc

Preservatives are those chemical substances which are used to preserve food or other organic materials from fermentation or decomposition.Sodium benzoate is a common food preservative.
Antioxidants help prevent cell damage caused by oxidants.They can be man made or natural.Beta carotene and lycopene are two examples of antioxidants.
