Kepler space telescope looks for transit of planets.When a planet crosses infront of a star it gets dimmer by a small amount..By studying the period and reduction of light it detects EXo planets.It looks in a particular area of Cygnus, Lyra and Draco constellations for main sequence stars numbering about 145000 in number.
