What is the difference between a tributary and distributary

A tributary is a narrow rivwr which comes frm the main river .. It subtends to many areas frm the main river... Whereas a distributary is a river which does not return to main stream once it leaves it

A tributary and a distributary are both bodies of freshwater that eventually meet with rivers.
A tributary is a stream that flows into a river.
A distributary is a stream which splits off of a river and flows in a different direction.
