FFloating rib : The 11th and 12th pair of ribs are called floating ribs because one end of the rib is attached to the vertebral column and the other end is free.

The first seven ribs attach to the sternum in the front and are known as true ribs.

11 and 12 pair ribs are called as floating ribs which are half the size of the others do not reach to the front of the body.
