Fibers in the matrix are of two types

(i) White Fibers

(ii) Yellow Elastic Fibers

(1)White Fibers:-
They are unbranched. They are arranged in bundles. They have wavy outline. They are made up of collagen. This collagen is non elastic. Thus the white fibers can withstand stress and strain. The collagen is converted to gelatin in boiling water. The

collagen is soluble in dilute acetic acid.

(2)Yellow Elastic Fibers:-
They are branched.

They are straight.
They are arranged singly.

They are made up of elastin.
