the current which changes its direction in regards intervals of time is known as AC ..
while the current which cannot change its direction is known as dc..for example.cell is an example of DC device

ac stands for alternating current and DC stands for direct current.
it may be defined as an electric current whose magnitude is either constant or variable but the direction of flow in a conductor remains same is known as DC and ac is defined as an electric current whose magnitude changes with time and direction reverses periodically.
