What is the difference between an acid base indicator and universal indicator ??

Unlike litmus, universal indicator can show us exactly how strongly acidic or alkaline a solution is. This is measured using the pH scale. The pH scale runs from pH 0 to pH 14. Universal indicator has many different colour changes, from red for strong acids to dark purple for strong bases

the substance or the chemical that determine the property of acid or base is known as acid base indicator.



following are the example of acid base indicator:-


1) Litmus Paper ( red or blue) .


2) phenolphthalein ( which is colourless) .



3) turmeric .


4) China rose.



5) red cabbage juice.


6) Petunia flower.



7) onion and Vanilla extract.

it is a natural indicator which determine which is acid and which is base .



it is also known as a pH scale which is given by sorensen in 1909.



it range 0-14
