An image and shadow are exclusive and complementary.
An image is formed when light rays (direct or reflected) from an object are captured on a screen or by a mirror.
A shadow is formed when no light rays fall in some area. That is light rays are blocked by an object from falling on the screen.
A shadow is seen only when there is some light around it.
