Quarrying means exploitation of big rectangular blocks of rocks like marble , sandstone. And there benches are almost 90 degree because of very hard competent rock and good slope stability.

Opencast mining is the exploitation of coal and other bedded deposits. The main point in this is that the overburden is backfilled in the worked out area.
