In anaphase of mitosis, sister chromatids of each chromosome move to the two opposite poles; but in the anaphase of meiosis, the homologous chromosomes of each bivalent move to the two opposite poles.

Thus, in mitosis, after anaphase, each chromosome is with only one chromatid and the daughter cells formed will be with the same number of chromosomes as that of the parent cell. But in meiosis, the daughter cells formed will be with half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell
