What is the difference between Atom,Ion and Molecule

An atom is the smallest particle of an element and a molecule is the smallest piece of a compound. An ion is a charged particle that is what happens when the numbers of protons and electrons are not equal. So a molecule of oxygen has two oxygen atoms because oxygen is diatomic as are many gasses.
