The Solicitor General of India is subordinate to the Attorney General of India. He/She is the second law officer of the country, assists the Attorney General, and is himself/herself assisted by four Additional Solicitors General for India.
The attorney general is usually a highly respected senior advocate of the court, and is appointed by the ruling government.
