Baking soda chemically is sodium bicarbonate
while washing soda chemically is sodium carbonate.

Formula of baking soda is NaHCO3 while formula of washing soda is Na2CO3.

Baking soda is used as ingredient to make cakes because when the cakes are baked baking soda decomposes to form carbon dioxide as a product and when it escapes from the cake it leaves the cake fluffy and soft.

NaHCO3 --> CO2 + H20 + NaOH.
