Bit rate is a measure of the number of data bits (that's 0's and 1's) transmitted in one second
While Baud rate is the number of signal units transmitted per unit time
example- 1200 bits per second means 1200 zeros or ones can be transmitted in one second, whereas
a 2400 baud rate means the channel is changing states up to 2,400 times per second.
