Body waves

  • Body wave are those wave which can travel through the interior of earth .
  • There are two types of body waves. Primary wave or P wave & Secondary wave or S wave.
  • P wave travel through compression and rarefaction. These wave can travel through both liquid & solid. S wave can only travel through the solid & not liquid.

Surface waves

  • Surface wave travel on the interface like between earth surface & atmosphere.
  • Surface waves have larger amplitudes and longer wavelengths than body waves & more destructive. These are of two types L & R.
