In a huge country like India, there are hundreds of colleges and universities. Some are known as central universities while other are called State Universities.

As the name implies, a Central University is an institution which was established with an Act of Parliament the Vice Chancellor of these universities are appointed directly by the President of India. Hence Central Act.

Today there are approx. 20 central universities in India.

Central Universities come under the State Governments and are formed by the Central Act, however, UGC, also known as University Grant Commission approves all universities via the UGC act., be it central or state university

The Central Act defines the rules and practices that have to be adopted by all universities across the country.

The UGC or University Grants Commission Act is responsible for the determination and coordination of standards across universities.

The State Act outlines the rules that have to be followed by all universities across the country.
