Circular Speed: When an object moves in a circular direction along with a point, it is called a circular speed.

An object moves around a point on a certain circular path, it is called a 'circular speed'.

For example: The speed of the Earth moving around the Sun, the speed of the electric fan at one point, the speed of the clock needles.

Oscillatory Speed: When an object moves on both sides of its mean position, it is called 'oscillation speed'.

An object moves backward-forward or right-left relative to its medium steady state, then it is called 'oscillating speed'.

For example: Moving of clock pendulum on left-right, the speed of the simple pendulum, the motion of the spring in a hanging state.

What is the difference between circular and oscillation speed ?

\huge\tt\colorbox{orange}{CIRCULAR \: MOTION }

  • In physics, circular motion is a movement of an object along the circumference of a circle or rotation along a circular path. It can be uniform, with constant angular rate of rotation and constant speed, or non-uniform with a changing rate of rotation.

  • Some of the most common examples of circular motion include man-made satellite that revolves around the earth, a rotating ceiling fan, a moving car’s wheel, the blades in a windmill, and gears in gas turbines.

\huge\tt\colorbox{orange}{OSCILLATORY \: MOTION }

  • Oscillatory motion is defined as the to and fro motion of the body about its fixed position. Oscillatory motion is a type of periodic motion. Examples of oscillatory motion are vibrating strings, swinging of the swing etc.

❥︎Following are the examples of oscillatory motion:

Oscillation of simple pendulum

  • Vibrating strings of musical instruments is a mechanical example of oscillatory motion
  • Movement of spring
  • Alternating current is an electrical example of oscillatory motion
  • Series of oscillations are seen in cosmological model
