1. The suffix is added for the functional group in IUPAC name but common names consist of name of the functional group as it is.
eg. CH3CH2OH - common name is ethyl alcohol. IUPAC name is ethanol.
2.The substituent’s are mentioned using the numerical in IUPAC name. Common names having branching of only the carbon chain is referred to as iso and neo.
