Forces that do not need physical contact with the object on which they are acting are called Non-contact forces. These forces can act on the object without physical contact . e.g are gravitational force, electrostatic force, magnetic force.

Forces that act on objects by direct or indirect physical contact are called contact forces. These forces can act on object only when it is in contact with it either directly or indirectly. Applied forces and friction are examples of contact forces.
