Cutaneous respiration- Respiration through the skin and Pulmonary respiration- Respiration through lungs.

✨ Cutaneous Respiration :-

  1. Respiration carried by skin is called cutaneous respiration .
  2. Skin is large and covers the entire body.
  3. It's outermost layer of the body is always exposed to air or water to diffuse air or water across the skin .
  4. Respiration is carried only in single stage.

Ex :- Earthworm, Leech and some amphibians.

✨Pulmonary Respiration :-

  1. Respiration carried by lungs is called pulmonary respiration .
  2. Lungs are elastic sac like structures .
  3. Lungs have several thousands of small chambers called alveoli . Alveoli are supplied with blood vessels .
  4. Pulmonary respiration is carried in two stages.
  • Inspiration
  • Expiration

Ex :- Mammals, birds, reptiles and some amphibians .
