The difference between daydreaming and night dreaming can be approached by many ways.

First of all, to go to the obvious:

Night Dreaming happens during REM phase (rapid eye movement). Here is where we have dreams and lucid dreams. There are many types of dreams here, and you can find some answers on this site. These are the dreams where we can fly, go to space, etc. Do impossible things, things we cannot do in waking life.

Daydreaming is an act of visualization, wich you get very involved. Mainly, you get to focus on an idea (traveling somewhere), and you get to imagine where you are going. If you have a vivid imagination/visualization, you can get very involved in this daydream to the point that you lose (to some extent) the connection with the world that surrounds you. You are not asleep in this state (a day nap still produces "night dreams."
