Difference between the demand for vegetables and tobacco-:
- Firstly demand means the amount of quantity a consumer or customer is willing as well as can buy at a particular price. Demand depends on willingness which is the tastes, likes, preferences and dislikes of an individual and also about one's ability which is the purchasing power or the income level of an individual.
- Vegetables are necessary goods and their demand is elastic that is a price change will result in a proportionate change in the demanded quantity of vegetables though consumers will tend to buy these irrespective of the price because it is a required part of the diet and has nutritional value to it but lesser the price, higher will be the quantity demanded of the vegetables by the consumers.
- Whereas tobacco is not a necessity, one consumes it because of one's choice and preference. But when one starts consuming it, they will consume it without considering the price as they cannot survive without it. But in vegetables, a price increase in one vegetable will lead to an increase in demand for that vegetable which has a lower price.
- Demand for tobacco is inelastic which means if the prices rise of it then also there will not be much difference in lowering its demand.
