Whether or not you agree with a stereotype, stereotypes are generally well-known within in a given culture (Devine, 1989). Sometimes people will act on their prejudiced attitudes toward a group of people, and this behavior is known as discrimination.

Discrimination means categorising people on account of their colour, caste, financial status, social status, class and other parameters and having different behaviour for different people.

Stereotypes is a term used for a special kind of habit, nature or practice is linked with specific kind of people. Or vice versa.

If a person eats too much cheeze, must be italian.

If a person eats curry, he’s Indian.

Even in India we stereotype people.

If he abuses too much, must be from Uttar Pradesh.

If he is from Bihar, must be a criminal and must not know english.

This is stereotyping.
