Answer:

displacement

1in these reaction ,more reactive metal displace less reactive metal from its compound

2 it is a slow reaction

3 change of colour take place

4 e.g fe++cuso4 ---->feso4++cu

double displacement

1 there is an exchange of ions between two reactant

2 it is a fast reaction

3 precipitate are formed

4 e.g  agno3++nacl-->agcl++nano3

DISPLACEMENT AND DOUBLE DISPLACEMENT REACTIONS

The differences between displacement and double displacement reaction is as under :-

1. Displacement Reaction :-

  • In this reaction, less reactive element is replaced by a more reactive element in a compound.
  • Since it is a single displacement reaction, therefore only one displacement takes place :- A + BX → AX + B
  • No precipitate or ppt is formed.
  • Eg. :- CuSO4 + Zn → ZnSO4 + Cu

2. Double Displacement Reaction :-

  • In this reaction, group of atoms switch places to form new compounds.
  • Since it is a double displacement reaction, therefore two displacements takes place :- AB + CD → AC + BD
  • Precipitate or ppt is formed in this reaction.
  • Eg. :- Na2SO4 + BaCl2 → BaSO4 + 2NaCl
