A reaction in which one element takes place of another element from its compound is known as displacement reaction.
Ex÷2AgNo3+Cu=Cu(No3)2+2Ag
silver nitrate reacts copper with and gives copper nitrate and silver

A reaction in which two different atoms or groups are displaced by two more reactive atoms or grouos is known as double displacement reaction.
Ex÷Na2So4+BaCl2=BaSo4+2NaCl
Sodium sulphate rects with barium chloride and gives barium sulphate and sodium chloride.
These reactions occur in ionic compounds.

<v> In a displacement reaction, a more reactive element replaces a less reactive element from a compound.

For Example: CuSo4 (aq) + Zn (s) → ZnSO4 (aq) + Cu (s)

In a double displacement reaction, two atoms or a group of atoms switch places to form new compounds.

For Example: Na2SO4 (aq) + BaCl2 (aq) → BaSO4 (s) + 2NaCl (aq)
