Answer:

Displacement has a direction as well as a Magnitude. When you start a problem, assign which direction will be positive. The magnitude of displacement is equal to minimum possible distance between two positions.

Hope its helps you.

MAGNITUDE OF DISPLACEMENT

If the motion of the particle is in one dimension i.e., along along a straight line, then the magnitude of displacement is equal to the total path lenght travelled by the object in the given time.

DISPLACEMENT

The shortest distance between the initial position and the final position of a moving object in the given interval of time from initial to the final position of the object is known as the displacement of the object
