The chemical reaction in which more reactive element displaces the less electropositive element from their compound is known as displacement reaction where as the chemical reaction in which the exchange of in takes place between the ions is known as double displacement reaction.
In displacement reaction, one reactant is in elemental form and the other is in compound form while in double displacement reaction, both the elements are in compound form.
eg- displacement reaction-
Fe + CuSO4 -->FeSO4 + Cu
double displacement reaction-
Na2SO4 + BaCl2 -->BaSO4 + 2NaCl

What is the difference between displacement reaction and double displacement reaction with an example each

\huge\red{Answer:}

\large\blue{\underline{\green{Displacement\: reaction :}}}

Here,
One element displaces another element from a substance.

The element which displaces will be of more reactive & the element which gets displaced will be of less reactive.

Eg: CuSO 4 + Zn —> ZnSO 4 + Cu

In the example, Copper(cu) is replaced by Zinc(Zn) because Zinc is more reactive than Cooper.

\large\blue{\underline{\green{Double\: Displacement\: reaction :}}}

Here,
Constituent atoms of the reaction interchange by the decomposition of the reactants to form new compounds.

In other words, exchange of ions takes place between two reactants to form new products.
=> These Reactions occur in Ionic Compounds.

Eg: Na 2SO 4 + BaCl 2 —> BaSO 4 + 2NaCl
