Distance:
- Distance is the length of actual path travelled by an object in the given interval of time.
- Distance travelled by an object depends upon the path followed by the particle in going from initial position to final position.
- Distance is always positive.
- Distance is always greater than or equal to its displacement in any direction.
- Scalar quantity
Displacement:
- Shortest distance between the initial and final position of a moving object in a particular direction.
- Does not depend on path followed.
- May be positive, negative or Zero.
- Vector quantity
- Always less than or equal to distance travelled by the body.
