What is the difference between distance and
displacement? Give three examples where distance is not equal to

Example 1: The Classic example: throw an object vertically (V) (1) and catch it at the same level where you caught it. The displacement is zero. The distance covered is 2 {(V(1)^2) /2g} = V (1)^2/g

Example 2: The esoteric: a plane leaves Quito, Ecuador amd travels around the world and lands back in Quito. The displacement is zero. The distance covered is 4E6m. (I choose Quito because it is nearly at the equator. That's what Ecuador means!)

Example 3: At the Olympics: a one-K runner needs to go round the oval 5-3 times to run the 1-K. The distance she covers is obviously 1,000m. The length of the Lap is 187m. The 0.3 of a lap os 56m. Her displacement is 56m.
