What is the difference between distance and displacement?​

Distance is the measurement of the path travelled but displacement is he shortest distance.

distance

  • it is a scalar quantity
  • it cannot be negative
  • it is always more than displacement
  • it cannot be reduced it will always increase

displacement

  • it is a vector quantity
  • it can be negative as negative shows direction
  • it is always less than distance as it is the shortest path between two points
  • it can be reduced .
