What is the difference between drift and diffusion in formation of pn junction
Answers
Answer:
DIFFUSION CURRENT: Whenever two different type of material are joined together that is n-type (rich of free elcteons) and p-type (rich of holes), then there exits a charge concentration difference. This charge concentration difference leads to flow of free electrons from n-type material to p-type material. Thus flow of electrons constitute flow of charge, hence a current exist across the junction. This current is termed as Diffusion Current. This current is very small and also termed as leakage current
DRIFT CURRENT : Whenever external voltage is applied to this combination, charge stored in material comes under the influence of electrical field, which cause charge to move in the direction of electrical field. This constitute current in the material and this current is called Drift current. This current is also called load current which flows through the applied load in the circuit.
