Vocational guidance is the continuous process of helping an individual to choose an occupation, prepare for it, enter it, and progress in it. The guidance is ‘guided’ by the individual’s interests, capabilities, competencies and by the needs and opportunities in the socio-economic environment of the individual.

Personal (and interpersonal) guidance is the process of helping an individual learner to know how to conduct oneself with consideration for other people, self and the environment, in order to improve and sustain the quality of own, others and global life.

Vocational and personal guidance are part of the more general educational guidance. Educational guidance covers aspects of

a. self realization

b. human/ global / environmental (inter)relationship

c. economic efficiency and sustainability of ones choices
