: An egg laying poultry is called layer whereas broilers are reared for obtaining meat. So a layer should be able to produce more number of large sized eggs, without growing too much. On the other hand, a broiler should yield more meat and hence should be able to grow well.

- Broilers & Layers significantly differ from each other. Broilers are reared for meat purpose whereas layers are reared for egg production. Layers attain sexual maturity around 20–22 weeks and laying eggs up to 72 weeks of age and then they are either moulted or sold as spent hens.
