Electrolytic refining is used to purify the impure metals by electrolysis. Generally metals like copper , zinc , silver , gold are refined using this method.
on the other hand electrolytic reduction can be useful in metallurgy of highly reactive metal s like Na, K, Ca etc. ores are mostly fused before electrolysis is done .
