Explanation:

1. Gender. English nouns have no gender. French has two. So there are twice as many adjectives in French e.g. /bon/ for masculine things and /bonne/ for feminine things. /good/ for anything in English.

2. Inflected endings. French words follow the pattern inherited from Latin of adding or changing the last syllable of the stem of the word. e.g. /port/, /portez/, /portaient/, /portissiez/ are all forms of /carry/. English does this a bit but you can learn or guess all the forms of an English verb; /carry/, /carries/, /carrying/, /carried/. That’s it.

3. Spelling. The pronunciation of both languages have changed a lot in the thousand years since they were first written down. Spelling is a nightmare for learners of English or French, but I think English is slightly worse.
