Ethanol is an alcohol whole ethanoic acid is a carboxylic acid.

The functional group in ethanol is OH while that in ethanoic acid is COOH.

nymphias15: Yeah sure, np.
aaryan128: and ethanoic acid is acidic whereas ethanol does not show dissociate into hydrogen ions
nymphias15: Nah, both are acidic, but alcohol being "weakly" acidic releases a negligible amount of H+ ions.
