External respiration takes place in the lungs and is also known as breathing. Here oxygen is inhaled into the lungs and and carbon dioxide diffused into the air.

Internal respiration is the process by which the gases that have been breathed-in are exchanged with the gases in the blood and tissues where carbon dioxide in the blood is replaced by oxygen.

Answer:

External respiration or breathing involves the exchange of gases-oxygen and carbon-di-oxide. Oxygen is taken in from the environment and carbon-di-oxide and water vapour are sent out. Specific organs, tissues or cells are used for external respiration.

Internal or cellular respiration involves in the release of energy in cells. Carbon-di-oxide and water vapour are waste products commonly produced during this process. Cellular respiration takes place in all living cells throughout the body.
