What is the difference between flower and inflorescence

flower is a specialised condensed shoot of an angiospermic plant while inflorescence is a cluster or arrangement of flowers

Inflorescence:

  • The flowers are arranged on the floral axis which is called as inflorescence
  • It is a "cluster of flowers" which is arranged on a stem.
  • It is comprises of a "main branch" or a "complicated arrangement of branches".

Flower:

  • Flower bears 'floral leaves' which  undergo sexual reproduction and give rise to fruits and seeds.
  • The stalk of each single flower is called a pedicel.
  • A flower which is called as a solitary flower if it is not a part of inflorescence and its stalk is also known as peduncle.
  • A flower is modified shoot and it shows 'distinct nodes' and 'internodes', whereas inflorescence does not shows nodes and internodes.
