The chromosomes contains 100s and 1000s of genes.
Chromosomes are condensed form of chromatin composed of DNA and Proteins.
And genes are segments of DNA containing information about a particular trait.

A gene is a segment of the DNA which is used to synthesise a protein.Thousands of genes make up a chromosome.Therefore a gene is a segment while chromosomes are group of genes joined together.You can consider it in this way-DNA is in genes and genes are in chromosomes.
