A gerund is a verbal, a verb form not functioning as a verb in the sentence, that ends in -ing and functions as a noun.
For example, running is my favorite hobby.
A form of a verb that may function as an adjective or noun.
English has two types of participles:
the present participle and the past participle.
Example. I saw John running for the plane.
