The definitions are as follows:

1) Diffusion : Is the movement of molecules / ions from a region of higher to lower concentration. It may or may not occur across a semi permeable membrane

2) Facilitated diffusion : Is a type of passive transport in which ions/molecules cross the semi permeable membrane because permeases present in the membrane facilitate the transport.

3)For active transport, energy is vital for movement, in this case protein molecules function as molecular pumps to enable the cell accumulate glucose/ions.

Sorry about the handwriting

sanjeetmanhas01: Your handwriting is good... thnx for the answer but can you explain facilitated diffusion again i am not getting it that what is the difference between simple diffusion and facilitated diffusion
barui232somashree: Actually what happens in simple diffusion the whole process is done by itself . While flowing from higher to lower concentration, the molecules crosses the membrane without any facilities. But in some cases the molecules faces difficulties to cross the membrane ( for example size of the molecules is larger than the pores present in the membrane) in such cases the molecules need to be facilitated by "permeases" to bring out the process
sanjeetmanhas01: ooh... okay! thanks a lot for this... now this is quite clear.. Thankyou again
barui232somashree: Welcome dear
