hard water does not produce good amount of lather(foam) when mixed with detergent or soap,due to the presence of bicarbonates of Mg and Ca.[ Ca(HCO3)2, Mg(HCO3)2,CaCl2,MgCl2,CaSO4,MgSO4].
Soft water is the one that produces good amount of lather (foam)when mixed with detergent or soap.
