Hey there!
Find your answer below!
_____________________________________________
•HEART WOOD:
- Heart wood is called DURAMEN
- It is centrally located pith.
- More durable wood.
- Microbial more resistant.
- darkly colored
- Secondary metabolites such as tannins, resins, cutin deposition occurs.
- Commercially more useful (timber wood)
- Vessels are laterally compressed.
- In heart wood xylem parenchyma produces tyroses/ tracheal plugs and block the cavities of vessels.
- no water conduction, it provides only mechanical strength.
- it is functionally inactive.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• SAP WOOD :
- sap wood is known as AlBUMEN.
- peripheral located wood.
- less durable wood.
- microbial less resistant
- light coloured
- secondary metabolites deposition not occurs
- commercially less useful.
- vessels are not compressed
- tryoses /tracheal plugs are not observed.
- provides both mechanical strength and do water conduction.
- it is functionally more active.
