what is the difference between heridity and genes

Heridity means the offspring of a particular person....whereas genes means the character of a person which is transfered to its offspring... Genetic material is found in the nucleus there are 23 chromosomes in each person..

Heredity-The term heredity may be defined as "transmission of genetically                  based characteristics from parent to offspring".
               eg.
               Cats will give birt to cats not dogs.
                A mango seed germinates into mango tree.
                Human give birth to only human not apes.

Genes -  Genes are the specific parts(DNA segments) of chromosome ,                      which determine heredity characteristics.There are 30,000 genes                 in human.
